Students mentored
With a career spanning over four decades, Dr. KS Anantha Krishna has led institutions to excellence, contributed to national policy-making, and inspired countless students and professionals.
He began his academic journey with a B.Arch from UVCE, Bangalore University (1972), a Master’s degree from the School of Architecture & Planning, Chennai (1975), and a Fellowship equivalent to a Ph.D. in the area of Human Settlements and Environmental Studies from IIM Bangalore (1982).
Renowned for his visionary leadership, Dr. Krishna has spearheaded international collaborations, organized transformative workshops, and authored over 50 publications. He has also guided Ph.D. candidates and served on prestigious boards of AICTE, COA, SPA New Delhi, SPA Bhopal, SPA Vijaywada, NIT Trichy, NIT Calicut, VNIT Nagpur, JNAFAU, Hyderabad and VTU, Belagavi. His accolades include the Madhav Achwal Gold Medal, the “Highest Architect Teacher Award of the Country” awarded by the IIA and the Honorary Doctorate conferred by the Bengaluru North University.
After a very thorough screening process of applications received from India and abroad, in 2007, he was offered the job of Director of School of Planning & Architecture, New Delhi by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Govt. of India. He has mentored several architectural schools across the country, elevating architecture departments of institutions like MIT Manipal and RVCE Bangalore into centers of excellence, positioning Karnataka on the national map of architectural education.
Dr. Krishna has held prominent roles, including Head of Department at MIT Manipal, RVCE Bangalore, and Dean at CMR University School of Architecture and currently serves as Professor Emeritus at NITTE School of Architecture, Planning & Design.
Dr Krishna is a voracious reader and has taught the subjects of History and Theory for more than four decades. He believes in the dictums “A teacher is more of a student than a student” and “A teacher is a good storyteller”.
His contribution to teacher training programs goes back to its very beginnings, in 1999. The COA gave him the responsibility of initiating and organising QIPs (now FDPs) and he was instrumental in conducting more than a dozen programs benefitting around 500 teachers.
As one of the earliest researchers in architecture in India, he has lectured across the country and has contributed to the initiation of PhD programs in several universities including the Visveswaraya Technological University (VTU), Belagavi.
His contribution to VTU has been immense. As Chairman, Board of Studies in Architecture for a record period of 15 years, from 2001 to 2016, he shaped the curriculum for the B.Arch, M.Arch and PhD programs of VTU.
Through his dedication to education, research, and architectural excellence, Dr. Krishna has left an indelible mark on the field, earning global recognition as a transformative leader and mentor.
